Anna Moreno

Anna Moreno, Barcelona 1984

Period of residence: March 2012 – 2014

“The central question of my practice is: From what position we talking about? To resolve it, I use my work as a series of attempts to detect the moment when subjectivity enters into political field. I am interested in the production conditions in culture, the states of systemic crisis and the value of art in the social sphere, and I consider art my tool to determine how ideology is indexed in behaviour, what it means to make a decision and how a belief is generated.

All this becomes symbolic in my work, and try to make themselves visible beyond the form itself. My exploration of performative capabilities of the conference, the event and the object results in open processes are formalized in video, installations, debates and performances. The materials that compose emerge from a process of negotiation and dialogue with various partners, which seek to maintain the same level complexity and transparency, and where you never know where the theoretical ends, begins the practical or when something is ready to be exposed.”

Anna lives between Barcelona and the Hague, where she teaches at the Royal Academy of Art, she has done events for SFMOMA (USA), W139 (NL) y SASG (KR); and performances at Stroom (NL), El Graner and NauEstruch. She is cofounder of the artists initiative Helicóptero, in The Hague.
