Mariona Moncunill

Mariona Moncunill, Barcelona 1984

Mariona Moncunill‘s work revolves around the convention and the discursive construction starting from the analysis of the context where it develops and it falls within. It is a dense framework of codes, rules and conventions that knit its own meaning. And she finds it necessary (or unavoidable) to convert them in her priority objective.

This analysis lets her explore the construction of significations and the value generation in other discursive areas: from exhibition space to journalist infography, through to a bank social works, the relation with the viewer, social and journalistic statistics or the knowledge administration in a library.

The negotiating and dialogging processes with all the implicated agents are an essential part of everyone of her works, despite they are not always visible. The game between reality and fiction, the mimesis, infiltration, speculation,  ambiguity and, specially, specificity, are some of the differential points of her work; a work that is frequently formalized in an an-iconic way or even under cover of the context.
