International open call for staying at Hangar’s residency
Hangar launches an open call for hosting artists of any nationality who need the services, the accommodation and the context that the center provides for the development of their research and / or artistic production projects.
Hangar has a residency for artists, which is located in the old house of the guard of the industrial complex where the center is located. The building has two floors of 80,99m2 and 62,59 m2. Each floor contains two double bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen. The residency has also access to a garden.
The artists hosted in the residency stay in a single room and share a kitchen -living room and a bathroom with another resident.
Working space (optional):
We offer an individual table in a shared space with other artists. The space has big windows, a lounge area and a fridge. It is located in the same floor as two multipurpose spaces and the working space of the projects in residence Befaco, Faboratory and Minipimer.tv. In the same building, just one floor above, there are the studios aimed at artists that stay in Hangar for more than three months.
Addressed to:
Artists, curators, art theorists and art researchers of all ages and nationalities. Groups up to four people.
Disciplines:
Visual arts, experimental music, artistic research and interdisciplinary projects.
Age and nationality:
There is not limit of age or any nationality condition for applying for this open call.
Resources provided by Hangar:
Hangar will provide the following resources for the artist:
1. Accommodation.
2. Working space (optional) in a shared space with other artists.
3. The following support services for the development of his/her project:
– Free consultancy on production planning, materials, budget management, etc..
– Free consultancy each Thursday evening on digital image, development of interactive projects, digital production and DIY synthetizers.
– Dissemination of the project in Hangar’s website and organisation of a public presentation.
– 20% discount for all the production services, courses and the rent of spaces and equipment.
Please note: The residency doesn’t provide a health insurance. It is mandatory that the artist arranges a valid health insurance for the period of the residency.
Fees:
1. Only accommodation:
– 475 euros per month
– 300 euros for two weeks (option available for theoretical, research and curating projects only).
2. Accommodation and working space in a shared space: 525 euros per month.
The fees include electricity, water and internet costs.
Taxes (21%) no included.
Calendar and duration:
This open call is for carrying out residencies from the 2nd of January 2015 on. The residencies have to have a duration between two weeks (for theoretical, research and curating projects) and three months. Please indicate in the application two options of dates for carrying out your residency. Also indicate if those dates are flexible.
Please note: Before deciding the dates for you residency take into account that Hangar closes for one week the week of the 15th of August. Also, in Barcelona and the rest of Spain some libraries, shops and suppliers are closed in August for holidays.

Selection criteria:
The selection will be done by the Hangar’s programme committee. They will take in consideration the artist’s resumé, the motivation, the viability of the proposal and its adaptation to the resources and the collaborators network of the center. There will be an online interview with the shortlisted candidates.
Residency agreement procedure:
The selected candidates will have to transfer the 10% of the total cost of the residency during the 15 working days after the e-mail confirming their residency has been sent. Not to meet this deadline means the cancellation of the residency.
Deadline for the applications and date of the resolution:
You can send us your application at any time. There are two selections procedures throughout the year:
– for applications received up to the 18th of November at 00h (GMT +1) inclusive the results will be communicated in December of the same year.
– for applications received up to the 30th of April at 00h (GMT +1) inclusive the results will be communicated in May of the same year.
The next deadline for applications is the 18th of November 2014.
The results of the next selection will be announced in December 2014.
Availability of residencies from January up to May 2015: January (3), february (2), March (3), April/May (2)
