espais c. Contemporary creation in schools

Hangar participates in the 2021-2023 edition of the program espais c. Contemporary creation in schools. During this period, a new format of this program is being rehearsed, based on the connection of an artist with a public school of primary education.

Selected artists develop a one-year residency at the school, which puts at their disposal a space (a studio) where their residency is located. Their residency period at the school can be extended for a maximum of one more year. espais c is a program promoted by the Barcelona Education Consortium and the Barcelona Institute of Culture. It was conceived jointly with the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2015.

In this new stage of espais c, the coordination and mediation of the program is the responsibility of Fabra i Coats: Center for Contemporary Art and Experimentam amb l’ART, together with Hangar, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies and the Fundació Suñol, as in associated centers to each espai c.

The general goals of the program are:
– Participate actively in the processes of knowledge generation, thinking and educational transformation.
– Promote the presence of art in education
– To value the work in network, collaborative and with the territory.
– Encourage the presence of artists in schools, from the residence in each space c as a space for collaboration, aimed at the development of artistic and educational research processes.

For the 2021-2023 edition, three schools are participating: the Josep Maria de Sagarra School, the Institut Escola Eixample and the Institut Escola ARTS, selected through a public call, within the framework of the CUP (Unified Call for Programs), which annually convenes the Education Consortium.

Artists Rosa Llop, Regina Giménez (in collaboration with Rafel G. Bianchi) and Neus Frigola have been proposed by each of the mediation teams of Hangar, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies and the Fundació Suñol, respectively, which accompany the development of each espai c.

Rosa Llop, from Hangar, at the Sagarra School

In the case of Rosa Llop, Hangar launched an internal call among resident artists, specifically aimed at participating for the first time in espais c. Afterwards Hangar, together with the educational team of the Sagarra School, got involved in the selection process of the resident artist.

The research project Entrepensar is Rosa Llop’s proposal for the espai c of the Sagarra School. Entrepensar is a generative research methodology used to mediate in collective processes, which applies non-discursive languages as tools to explore, understand and question reality collectively.

Rosa Llop is a designer, teacher and author. She has focused her research on graphic language, the critique of the interface and creative methodologies. With more than 20 years of professional experience in the field of editorial design and the dissemination of cultural activities, she has also been the author and curator of content for magazines, books and exhibitions on design criticism for cultural entities such as the FAD, the CCCB, the ICUB and the Diputació de Barcelona, among others. She has participated in research projects both nationally and internationally. And she has been teaching and directing postgraduate programs for university schools such as ELISAVA, BAU and the UOC. She has also participated in associations linked to the promotion of design (FAD Board 2005-2009; GRRR Collective 2000-2019).

Rosa Llop’s practice responds to the need to question the constructs that delimit and predefine the role of the designer. Rosa uses research as a strategy to observe contemporaneity, paying special attention to the systematization of creative processes and representation policies. Her formal language seeks minimal action and he is interested in silence, emptiness and the invisible as acts of meaning.
