Creation workshop in 16mm

SOLD OUT

Workshop of exploration and experimentation in 16mm where the participants will learn to use a bolex camera, to film from a collective exercise of filming, to reveal by hand the film in process of developing reversible black and white, and to see the results projected in its original format. The aim is to master the different devices of this analog format with a special focus on developing as a creative process.

In cinematographic creation, all processes are controlled by filmmakers with the exception of film development, thus deactivating the possibility of experimenting with the aesthetic qualities of the analog format. The techniques of handcrafted developing allow the exploration around the response of light and its (d)effects at the moment of the “film alchemy”, thus narrowing the intimate relationship that the filmmaker maintains with the film.

This workshop proposes the making of a collective film filmed with a 16mm camera, to then put into practice various developing processes: negative development, reversible-invertible development and other experimental methods.

There will be a first theoretical session on analogue and experimental cinema, as well as a practical and technical introduction. Afterwards, a shoot will be made using different 16mm filming techniques such as fades, chains, overprints, changing filming speeds. To later develop the films with different processing techniques.
