On food craving: Residency of Wendy Ann Mansilla

Wendy Ann Mansilla works on the interdisciplinary field of digital media, experimental art and science. Her research interests and art productions explore the implicit experiences, synthetic reality, social media and the aesthetics of failure.

In her residency at Hangar, she aims to visually explore how sensations of food craving can be recreated using Digital Media and the Internet. In her academic research she found that implicit experiences and intrusive mental concepts affect human behavior and aesthetic judgement which lead her to explore the notion of super stimulants and human nature. Her current artistic research at Hangar challenges the notion of virtual super stimulants or pleasure technologies such as food media, pornography, and the arts affecting the way we interpret our experiences and our preferences. For her one month residency (March – April, 2012) she plans to complete a prototype and to conduct a public presentation on April 12, 2012. Her artistic research is financed by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Q2S).
