Ignacio Uriarte gave up his office job to devote himself to what he calls “office art”. In Four Geometry Sets (Rulers), 2011, the elements of four geometry sets are combined to form 72 geometric figures. The sets break away from the law of compulsory efficiency of the workplace in order to explore their aesthetic potential and, accordingly, to show their non-productive possibilities.
This refusal to comply with their original function transforms an apparently innocent exercise into a resistance to the established order. The Drawing Center (NY) is staging a solo exhibition of his work in 2013.
