Mercè Hernández’s work is centred on verifying how a certain presence can alter another, how space changes us, and how we modify space. The starting point can be a suggestive shape or the result of chance. From here on, a number of shapes -which can be objects or landscapes, or both at the same time- tries to adapt to the one that precedes it in a battle of colour, and the fight for limelight. The constructive process of the pictorial space is given by man’s needs when adapting to situations she has not created and her desire to emerge unscathed, or to resolve them as best he can.
