espais c. Contemporary creation in schools
espais c. Contemporary Creation in Schools is an innovative program launched by the Barcelona Education Consortium, the Institute of Culture of Barcelona, and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The program is coordinated by Experimentem amb l’Art, with the involvement of Hangar, Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Fundació Suñol, La Capella, and Chiquita Room, serving as mediating and support entities.
During the 2021-2023 biennium, the program’s initial version was piloted. This version connects an artist with a public primary school, where the selected artist engages in a one-year residency. The school provides a designated space (a studio/workshop) for the artist’s residency, which remains open and accessible to students. This allows students to develop their projects alongside the artist in a shared studio environment.
The program’s overarching goals are:
– To actively contribute to the processes of knowledge generation, critical thinking, and educational transformation.
– To enhance the integration of art within the educational setting.
– To emphasize the value of networked, collaborative work within the community.
– To establish the workspace (studio) as a relational environment that both influences and is influenced by educational processes.
– To encourage the situated presence of artists in educational institutions, with each espai c serving as a collaborative space dedicated to the development of artistic and educational research processes.
