16 mm filming and developing workshop

On June 18 and 19, from 10 a.m., the collective in residence Crater-Lab will give a workshop on filming and developing in 16 mm.

In filmmaking, all processes are controlled by the filmmakers except for film development, thus disabling the possibility of experimenting with the aesthetic qualities of the analog format.

The handmade developing techniques allow the exploration of the response of light and its (d)effects at the moment of the “filmic alchemy”, thus strengthening the intimate relationship between the filmmaker and the film.

The workshop proposes the realization of a collective film shot with a 16 mm camera, to then put into practice various development processes: negative development, reversible-inversible and other experimental methods.

There will be a first theoretical session on analog and experimental cinema, as well as a practical and technical introduction. On Saturday there will be a shooting using different filming techniques in 16 mm such as fades, film chaining, overprints, change of filming speeds… To later develop the films with different processing techniques.

The objective is to make a collective piece based on guidelines agreed prior to the shooting and to be able to shape it the week after the workshop, where the participants will have access to the facilities to work on the editing, effects, film credits, with the intention of having a finished piece.

No prior knowledge is required.
