Hans Diemel
Utrecht, 1974
Period of residence: March – May 2009
As an artist Hans Diemel likes to see the world as a stage. Our perception of the world lies central for how we make sense of what is happening around us. Like in a movie, characters and their surroundings provide some clue for constructing more or less coherent stories. Place, Action and Time are considered the building stones of cinema.
In general his method is that of a hunter-gatherer, collecting material from the streets and the media around us, returning them in an other form and context (for example: ‘Protest’ 2008 and ‘Old Church’ 2008). He’s interested in handing out suggestions of stories through small gestures with big possible effects. The world is coming in as a continuous stream of found footage providing us with clues to create new stories.
