Witter van Hulzen and Sander Breure
Witter van Hulzen: Bolsward (Netherlands), 1984
Sander Breure: Leiderdorp (Netherlands), 1985
Period of residence: June – July 2010
Witte van Hulzen studied Fine Arts at the ArteZ Art Academy in Arnhem. During his studies he had internships with Jan Fabre (during the production of Orgy of Tollerance) and with Job Koelewijn (during his solo exhibition Loco Motion).
Sander Breure studied composition at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague with Martijn Padding, Yannis Kyriakides and also for two years with Richard Ayres. He was well introduced into the tradition of classical music, during curricular classes but also during a masterclass by René Clemencic. On the other hand he was introduced into avant-garde music theatre during the lessons he took with Paul Koek.
Witte and Sander work together since 2007 on the production of videos and performances. Their 3-channel video installation You’ll never walk alone, recorded in Uganda, won the TENT Academy Award ’09 as well as the René Coelho Prijs 2009.
In 2010 they had their first solo exhibition at Tegenboschvanvreden gallery, featuring their video Eternal Return, made during a residency program at Platform Garanti, Istanbul. The video is a mixture of Turkish television programs, poetry of Nazim Hikmet and the imagination of Sander & Witte themselves.
Their last project to date was a performance lasting five days at the Amsterdam fair. Three actors provided a surreal sight in a fictitious gallery founded by the artists: Galeri Ansgar Lund from Stockholm, Sweden.
