Elka Krajewska
Warsaw, 1967
Period of residence: December 2004 – February 2005
Elka Krajewska is a polish artist and experimental filmmaker who works through digital media. She moved to New York in 1989, after studying linguistics and film history in Warsaw University, to study photography, literature, sculpture and painting.
Particularly impressed by the works of Claude Cahun, Hans Richter, Ken Jacobs or Richard Foreman, Krajewska builds her work on a multimedia basis. The origin of her short films are eclectic materials (drawings, paper props, video recordings, still images), with which she forms condensed visual compositions, characterized by a speedy visual rhythm and an extreme brevity.
Her films have been selected and shown in the Polish Abrstract Film 1933-2004 (Stockholm, 2006), the Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center (Buffalo, 2006) and the Ovalhalle in MuseumsQuartier (Vienna, 2005).
