Kristine Halmrast, Once and for all we have to understand that we will never return to paradise.
This statement points to the human need for progress, and the disappointment and doubt connected to the anxiety over the lack of it. This lack of progress is central for the characters in her videopieces, who are inserted into an insoluble power game. Her starting point lies in her own resistance: When she finds herself close to an answer–she quickly gets thrown back to square one. She does not allow herself to be in the state of a definite answer. Like the feeling of happiness slipping away as one confirms the condition.
From building narratives based on sampling dialogue from movies, she now sample from her own dreamt dreams. She works with dream because our lack of knowledge concerning the unconscious is too great to refrain.
She graduated with a Master degree in Fine Arts at The National Academy of the Arts, Bergen – Norway, year 2011. She lives and works in Barcelona and Oslo. Her works has amongst others been shown at Trondheim Kunstmuseum in Trondheim, Høstutstillingen in Oslo, Kino Kino in Sandnes, Bergen Kunsthall in Bergen, Small Projects in Tromsø and 700IS Reinderland in Reykjavik.
