Weslley Fontenele studied a degree in theater at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) and nowadays, acts as director and producer of videos of the theater scene. He is part of the research group “Animación en la encrucijada de las artes: el dibujo animado entre la imagen y la escena” and “La teatralidad cinematográfica y el uso de los nuevos dispositivos de formación de imágenes” of UNIRIO. He has the subproject “Duplos imagéticos del actor – Entre la presencia física y lo virtual”, which investigates the image, its concept and aesthetic use, modern and contemporary theater.

His work as a theatre director and producer of theatre videos focuses on research on the relationship of contemporary theatre with cinema and visual arts using new devices producing images in theatrical scenes. Digitalization of images, technological advances in the creation of new media, the cheapening of equipment, impose a new way of thinking about the arts.

He has been awarded several times: by the Government of Brazil Call Cultural Exchange 2015/1, by the City of Parnaíba, by the Call Favela Criativa and won the award for best director at FECTA – Theater Festival of Cia Acontece in Fortaleza 2013.
