Rarefacció 2021

Hangar presents the second edition of Rarefacció, listening cycle divided into seven days that takes place in Hangar’s Sala Ricson. Curated by Sergi Botella, the cycle is part of the Audio Formal program.

For this season, Rarefacció presents a program formed by artists who have a common bond; the non-conformity with any of the limits that gives them their own identity. Artists who investigate the sound from a personal perspective fleeing from the repetition of methods or stylistic pigeonholing: the showcase of the effervescent label Nyapster, the sound of loneliness and nostalgic landscaping of Balago or the improvised excursions in the vibrations of the metals from the game with the drums of Emilio Berné; finding also singularities in the work of Mbodj who mixes music and crosses styles without any kind of limit in a sonorous polygamy. The research focused on the voice of Janneke van der Putten and the interaction with the body and space, or Noish who investigates the values of order and chaos from psychoacoustics.

Due to the cancellation of last year’s edition, for this season Rarefacció has decided to repeat, as far as possible, the program of 2020, adding some more performances: a showcase of the Hypermedium platform featuring Evol, Nplgnn and Tutu supported by MUTEK ES, and the vocal and acoustic research of Giulia Deval. In addition, this year, Rarefacció and On-the-fly (European project led by Hangar), join forces and present Niklas Reppel, artist who will present his work in music code programming.

If Rarefacció 2019 was based on the synthesization and delocalization of club music and relations with the artistic context under the label of “Sound Art” that were revised in different ways, the 2021 edition focuses on different national and international agents where the only common denominator lies in the complexity and mutation of the practice and identity as creators. Artists who have different lines of research with a great mobility between their own limits. Rarefacció, in its second edition, aims to maintain a humble and “intimate” program, always on the same stage: a black cube that we call Sala Ricson.

Rarefacció will take place from April 9 to May 21, every Friday at 6 pm. The symbolic price of the ticket is 3 € and includes a free tote bag.
