Jenny Abouav. L’Isle-d’Espagnac, 1991

Jenny Abouav’s artistic practice focuses on performance and installation. She questions the poetic and political aspects of resistance present in slowness, emptiness, silence and trembling. She deploys ambiances that she activates by bringing together the body, sound, light and sculpture. The notions of haptics, proprioception and synesthesia intermingle and respond to each other. Her fields of research and experimentation question the philosophical dimensions of skin and listening to make visible the porous resonance between the body, the acoustics and the atmosphere of a space.

Jenny Abouav explores the photographic and video images to question the immobility of the image and its possibilities. She uses and diverts the analog and digital processes to make feel the power and the sensitive intelligence of the human body.

She apprehends the skin as a tool of creation and a sculptural material. This organ, the largest of the human being, has a multitude of sensory sensors. Jenny Abouav explores and works with the interface of the epidermis : a place of convergence between the interior and the exterior. The resonance of all these places that we carry within us and that carry us, inhabit us, make us fantasize. The surface of the earth and that of the skin, our thin films that brush against each other.

After a Bachelor’s degree in University of Bordeaux 3 in Film and Audiovisual Studies, Jenny Abouav moved to Montreal for 5 years to study at the University of Quebec in Montreal in Visual Arts and then in Interactive Media and Sound Creation. She moved to Marseille in 2016 and obtained her DNSEP from the Superior School of Art of Aix-en-Provence in 2018.

She has presented her work in France and abroad, among others at the Performance Crossing Festival in Prague, the Parallèle Festival in Marseille, the Grenier à sel in Avignon, the ATM: OMNI Festival in Seoul, Inact Festival in Strasbourg and the International Performance Festival in Riga.
