Violeta Mayoral. Almería, 1988
Violeta Mayoral (Almería, 1988) is an artist currently based in Barcelona. Her point of departure is photography as a space for autonomy that allows one to enter and exit the image from that which is performative, sonic or sculptural as a metaphor for the gaze. Using events and the act of listening as her methodology, she is interested in understanding the regimes of meaning from the paradigm of vision and acoustic experience. Her work is currently represented by the gallery etHall and she is a resident artist at the production and research centre hangar.org in Barcelona. She studied Communication at the University of Barcelona, with a mention in Semiotics at the UNAM (DF, Mexico) thanks to the Ibero-American Scholarship of Banco Santander. She has exhibited her work at the Joan Miró Foundation (Barcelona), the Reina Sofía Museum (Madrid), the Centre for Contemporary Creation of Andalusia (Córdoba), Halfhouse (Barcelona), La Capella (Barcelona), the Tecla Sala Art Centre (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat), Sala de Arte Joven of Madrid, Art Nou Bcn Festival, etHall Gallery, Palmadotze Gallery and at the contemporary art fairs ART-O-RAMA (Marseille, France), SWAB (Barcelona) and Arte Santander (Santander, Spain). She has also published her work through platforms such as Lateral Addition (Philadelphia), Atmos (Montevideo) and A’DESK (Barcelona), among others. She has taught at La Casa Encendida (Madrid) and in the En Residència programme (Barcelona).
