Campus de les Arts
The Campus de les Arts was born in 2018 as a project promoted by the University of Barcelona (UB), following a proposal by the CoNCA (National Council for Culture and the Arts) in its report “Higher education in the artistic field in Catalonia. Study and organisational proposal – 2018”.
The aim of the Campus de les Arts is to develop interdisciplinary research and postgraduate training projects, as well as to train art teachers. The Campus de les Arts also acts as a hub for the transfer of knowledge and as a meeting point for the centres to exchange information, experiences and perspectives. It also strengthens the dialogue with governments and the rest of the cultural sector in Catalonia.
Once the basic parameters of the project were defined (“objectives, future location at Can Ricart, administrative involvement, funding, timetables”) and presented to all nineteen centres for the arts in Catalonia, the Working Group for the Promotion of the Campus de les Arts at Can Ricart was set up in the early 2019s. This group was made up of institutional representatives from all the centres, as well as CoNCA and HANGAR, the Centre for Artistic Production and Research, under the coordination of the UB.
In 2022, the work of the Research Commission was lauched, integrating initiatives into the 2022-23 working plan. Even though Hangar is not an academic training centre, it is involved in the development of the campus. In more specific terms, it actively takes part in the Research Commission because of its path of support and reflection around artistic research.
