Stella Rahola Matutes holds a degree in architecture from ETSAB (UPC) in Barcelona, a master’s degree in design from ETSAB (2011) and a MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London (2019). Through architecture, she is interested in space, construction and the material capacity for transformation. Her practice is concerned with the creation of sites and spatially situational encounters, through installations and sculptural works that salvage disused crafts and techniques. The continued use of borosilicate glass permeates between craft and science, engaging with other things and species. The kinships that emerge from these associations run through forces and affectivities, opening up possibilities for forms of coexistence that imply a sustainable contingency.

She has exhibited nationally and internationally, her recent exhibitions include: intercanvis, Dilalica (Barcelona, 2023), Apunts per un incendi dels ulls, MACBA (Barcelona, 2021), Beautiful Failures at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion (Barcelona, 2021), Teoría de la Alegría at MACE (Ibiza, 2020), LA Contemporary Art Fair with London Gallery Union Pacific (Los Angeles, 2019), Políticas de Translación at Stone Gallery (London, 2019), Deptford X (London, 2018), Tulca Festival of Visual Arts (Galway, 2018). She has recently been awarded the Bienal d’Arts Visuals Ricard Camí Prize (2022), the A-FAD Prize in recognition of her career (2021) and the Fundació VilaCasas Sculpture Prize (2021). She teaches MEATS (Master in Ephemeral and Temporary Spaces) at the Elisava School in Barcelona.
