Sonata for the drops and the press by Zoé Couppé and Guilhem Prat at Lumbung Press
Four characters, a printing press, a stage, sadness, surprises, water and dripping tears.
On 19 March, Zoé Couppé and Guilhem Prat present Sonata for the drops and the press. Four characters, a printing press, a stage, sadness, surprises, water and dripping tears, a performance they will develop in the offset printing workshop of the Lumbung Press project in residence thanks to the exchange programme between the CEAAC-Centre Europeu d’Accions Artístiques Contemporànies in Strasbourg and Hangar.
Zoé Couppé and Guilhem Prat are interested in what connects and separates print and performance. By reflecting on what goes through the printing press, the machine becomes a stage on which stories and characters unfold. Sonata for the drops and the printing press is a performance of improvisation, of not knowing exactly what will be said, when it will start, even though concrete things have been thought of. Once the performance is over, the artists want to return to it, transcribe it and expand it in printed form, more or less close to the original discourse or its meaning.
Zoé Couppé and Guilhem Prat use various media, such as writing, performance and printed forms. With Léo Peinturier, Zoé Couppé and Guilhem Prat realise the project At the same time, dedicated to the creation of sound objects and printed forms, sent by mail by subscription or circulated from hand to hand. First broadcast on radio (*Duuu radio, Lyl radio), the sonic creation is then amplified in visual and editorial form, becoming both a trace of performance and a graphic experiment. At the same time, it questions the act of publishing, or how publishing activates relational and emotional exchanges.
