Meshes, Diagrams, Knots and Staples

On May 8th, artists, scientists, and cultural agents who have created and made possible the GRAPA prototype will gather at the Mirador CCCB. It will be a collective dialogue to assess the learnings and artistic methodologies ACTS (Arts, Science, Technology, and Society), culminating in the publication of two notebooks about the project.

The session will be moderated by Susana Arias (CCCB) and Anna Manubens (Hangar), and will feature the participation of Lucía Casani, Claudio Barría, Tere Badia (HacTe), Clara Piazuelo (GRAPA coordinator); and the two artists who have participated in the GRAPA residency: Silvia Zayas and Joana Moll.

During the talk, the two paper notebooks, which have emerged from the project, will be presented, and issues of artistic positioning will be addressed, such as the need to highlight the crisis while being able to intervene in it; the management of anxieties and rhythms, or the distribution of agency in the processes. They will also discuss the conflict between art and technology to understand both the obstacles and the symmetries between both disciplines.

Between 2022 and 2023, Hangar and CCCB launched GRAPA, a device designed to accompany artists working at the intersection of art, science, technology, and society (ACTS), but above all conceived as training in institutional flexibility to address the singularity of processes at this intersection and as an opportunity to test learning and openness devices.

GRAPA is the first pilot program of Red ACTS, an initiative of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation and the Barcelona Hub for Art, Science, and Technology (HacTe) to articulate the state ecosystem of research, creation, and training at the intersection of art, science, technology, and society.
