Session with open-weather artists
On June 6 at 6:30 pm, the open-weather collective (Sasha Engelmann & Sophie Dyer) will offer an open session to present their project Year Of Weather, where they will share their DIY methodologies for receiving satellite imagery and reflect on the recent restrictions on access to climate information imposed by the Trump administration.
An antenna (Open-weather Automatic Ground Station) has been installed at Hangar, allowing for the capture of meteorological images transmitted by satellites. This initiative is the result of a collaboration between Foto Colectania, Radio Web MACBA, and Hangar, and is part of a global network with stations in countries such as Cyprus, the United Kingdom, India, and Cambodia. The collected images will also be included in the exhibition presented at Foto Colectania, establishing a link between atmospheric observation and artistic practice.
open-weather is a feminist project led by Sophie Dyer and Sasha Engelmann that explores new ways of imagining and representing the Earth and its climate systems through low-cost, community-based tools. You can learn more about their work in episode Sonia #397 of Radio Web MACBA’s podcast.
