Andrea Valdés
Feral writing residency
April - May 2020
Andrea Valdés. Barcelona, 1979
Valdés has a degree in Political Science, she is a former bookseller and above all a writer, which would explain her interest in language and how it helps us to build our own identity, but always from strategies that go beyond the strictly biographical. Her lack of enthusiasm for labels often makes her want to turn them around or find it hard to explain them. She tried this in Distraídos venceremos (Jekyll & Jill), an essay that analyses a series of works conceived in extreme situations or as an act of survival. She is also the co-author of a play (Astronaut, Theatre O) and a fanzine (La línea sin fin) about the cultural history of Catalonia, which, who knows how it ages… As well as collaborating with artists in catalogues and exhibitions, she writes for various media including the Babelia supplement of El País and the magazines El Estado Mental and CTXT. A year ago she started giving courses and is now involved in a new project about two great women: Carla Lonzi and Lee Lozano.
