April 14th: Dorkbot Barcelona
DORKBOT // APRIL 14th 2011 // HANGAR
"People who do weird stuff with electricity"
Dorkbot is a gathering between artists, engineers, and people interested in "electronic art" – in its broadest sense- in general: people who do weird stuff with electricity.
Dorkbot gathers around collectives from all over the world who work on the development of experiences using electronics and new technology. The first event took place in New York in the year 2000. After that, Dorkbots emerged in other cities such as London, San Francisco, Linz, Melbourne, Seattle, Rotterdam, Lisbon, Chicago, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Medellin, etc.
The network of Dorkbots works like a non-commercial franchise of sorts. Any person interested in setting up a Dorkbot may do so in their city and write to info@dorkbot.org. The only criterion for this is that Dorkbot should be celebrated by "people who do weird stuff with electricity".
The Dorkbot community in Barcelona emerged in 2004. At the beginning it had the will to be nomadic, and events were held in different spaces in the city, such as Riereta, Stradl or Metrónom. Since 2007, its headquarters have been in Hangar.
