Sergi Álvarez Riosalido. Sabadell, 1992
Sergi Álvarez Riosalido carries out research and works between curating and writing. He holds a degree in Communication (UAB), a master’s degree in Comparative Studies in Art, Literature and Thought (UPF), a postgraduate degree in Contemporary Thought (UCM) and a master’s degree in Contemporary Art Curating (Sorbonne Université Paris IV) thanks to a grant from ‘La Caixa’. He was part of the year zero of the independent study programme ‘organism – art in applied critical ecologies’, promoted by tba21.
He has collaborated in exhibition and research projects in institutions such as the CCCB (Barcelona), the Jeu de Paume (Paris), the Centre Pompidou (Paris) and La Casa Encendida (Madrid), among others. He is the author of the monograph on the experimental filmmaker Jonas Mekas, No aceptaremos las ataduras (Brumaria, 2017), and on the occasion of his centenary he curated different activities at Matadero Madrid and the CCCB’s Xcèntric.
Curated exhibitions include Un amor salvaje que arruina nuestra paz (winner of Inéditos 2019 at La Casa Encendida), Des soleils encore verts (as a member of the collective Champs magnétiques at Mains d’Œuvres, DOC! Bétonsaon, CAC Brétigny, in Paris, 2021), Una casa sin fuego es como un cuerpo sin sangre (Can Felipa, 2023) and mecamísticas (Dilalica, 2024), among others. In 2022, together with the artist Valentin Ranger, he was one of the winners of the Prix Dauphine pour l’Art Contemporain 2022.
With a particular interest in curatorial practice as a collective process of co-creation, some of the themes that run through his research include the subversive dimension of love, desire and tenderness, or the ways of creating community and the materialities that underlie the present.
