Paratext n.35

We are many. No. We are many and they are many in a dark, closed space, high ceiling. Yes. we are many and the ceiling is high and dark. everything is dark except a light. A spotlight, yes. A
spotlight and a screen. We are in a dark room, a lot of people and, in front of us, there is a spotlight on a table with one, two, three, four, and five people. Four people read a script by Martin.
Altogether five people. Four read for him and us and he does it too. Martin, I mean. Yes, he also reads variations. They vary. They repeat the same thing, but with variations. The same thing but different. The different editions of a comic book. What comic book? On the screen, different layers of the I and now, oh, now you’re throwing me off for a moment. Let’s get back to it. It’s dark. We’re a big group of people and the ceiling is high and the walls are black and there’s a table with five people reading repetitions with variations. On a screen, images are projected, fragments of
vignettes of a comic book. What comic book? Different layers of color, plots, and each layer is a voice that in the next one says the same thing but with a subtle variation, or maybe not so subtle.
And I think, I, the one who writes when five people read and others listen and the images are passing and night falls, I think that everything on this planet is subjected to an adverbial condition:
it is a place in a certain moment that goes by, and transforms into another in a chain of events that affect each other. Next to me, someone says something, comes back, Anna comes back, and things and beings update and adapt, according to each adverbial situation. Either that or die. And language. What happens to language? We are people listening to repetitions with variations, language updates, variations that accumulate, adaptations to new contexts, meanings that are built, invisible castles loaded with meanings that are transformed.

Translations.

Lluís Duch,
who is no longer subjected to any adverbial condition, said these are translations, and in front of Martin and his table of reading people we can say that a translation system is a generative machine if that makes any sense? Like life, perhaps, generative like all the things of life. because it is not other than that which is dead, stopped, forgotten, or non-existent, that which does not transform itself, because it is not subjected to any adverbial condition.
