Carola Moujan. Montevideo, 1969
Carola Moujan is an artist, designer, researcher and teacher. Trained in architecture and fine arts in Uruguay and the United States, specialized in media arts and design in France, her transdisciplinary practice crosses the fields of graphic and interaction design, installation, still and animated image, artist’s book, urban furniture and scenography.
D. in design from the Université Paris 1 (Sorbonne), her practice-based research work explores the concept of entr’espace, an emergent quality that arises from the interweaving of complex interactive processes between spaces, temporalities, sensitive bodies, affects, materials, and digital code in post-digital, rather than human, contexts. Her current lines of research are developed around three axes: urban developments, non-verbal mechanisms of interaction and the methodology of artistic research.
Moujan has exhibited in Lyon (Lyon City Design Urban Forum, 2015), Montevideo (EAC, 2018, Museo Histórico Cabildo, 2018, Centro Cultural España, 2015), Madrid (Matadero Madrid, 2016), Lisbon (Palacio Calheta, Museu do design et da moda, 2017), Berlin (Instituto Cervantes, 2016), La Paz (Museo Nacional de Arte, 2017) and Mexico (Museo Franz Mayer, 2018).
She has received the Bourse Brouillon d’un Rêve Numérique (SCAM, 2009) and the International Study and Travel Grant (University of Minnesota, 1990), as well as two special mentions in ” Integral Design” and “Design and Citizen Participation” from the fifth Ibero-American Design Biennial (BID_diMAD, 2016). She was selected in the second international call for proposals of Lyon City Design (Lyon Design, 2014), the seventh international call for proposals of the EAC (Ministry of Culture and Communication, Uruguay, 2016) and in the first call for proposals of RFI Ouest Industries Créatives (France) for its research project Plus qu’urbain (2016).
Carola Moujan regularly publishes her work in academic and professional journals, such as Volume (Netherlands), CREE (France), Interstices (New Zealand) and Entrelacs (France). She currently teaches digital design and directs Master’s theses at the École Camondo (Paris) and the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris Belleville and is a guest lecturer at art and design schools and university courses in France and Europe.
