Call for artistic residency exchanges between Marrakech and Barcelona
Call for artistic residency exchanges between Marrakech and Barcelona. Promoted by Hangar, LE 18 and AC/E, in collaboration with Jiser.
Aim of the call
Hangar, a research and artistic production centre in Barcelona (Spain), LE 18, a cultural space and multidisciplinary residency in the medina of Marrakech (Morocco), and the public institution AC/E, in collaboration with the association Jiser, are launching a call for two places for a programme of reciprocal artistic residencies of research and/or creation that will facilitate and support crossings and dialogues of proximity between the two scenes.
The aim of this call is to support two artists of legal age (one Moroccan and one Spanish). The call is aimed at practices or projects whose premise or speciality is image, audiovisual or photography, and for which the presence in Morocco or Spain is necessary to advance a creative process and/or research related to one of the research axes of the residency centres.
The Spanish artist residency will take place in April and May 2024 in Marrakech, and the Moroccan artist residency will take place in September and October 2024 in Barcelona.
About the organisations
Hangar is a centre dedicated to maintaining ( that is, generating, updating, revising and sustaining) the conditions necessary to facilitate artistic production and research, understood as practices and forms of critical speculation capable of responding to contemporary debates and urgencies. Hangar understands art as a knowledge-producing practice, and therefore defends artistic research as a research modality in its own right, endowed with a specific modality of discovery and knowledge production. Hangar’s mission is to support creators in all phases of artistic research and production processes by providing a set of services and tools (some managed by Hangar, others by its resident collectives) that aim to facilitate artists’ access to the necessary conceptual, contextual, semiotic, material and technical resources, and to provide a context for experimentation and free transfer of knowledge.
Centre resources for the residency according to availability and shared operation in Hangar:
– Soft/hardware and interaction lab
– Interfaces and Networks Lab
– Construction Lab
– Audiovisual editing room
– Work table
– Accommodation in La Caseta, a house for residents and participants in Hangar’s programmes, with two double bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen on each of the two floors. The residence is designed to accommodate up to four artists at a time.
