Call for applications for a short-term residency (2 and 3 months), with or without accommodation
Open call for applications for a short stay studio (2 and 3 months), with the possibility of accommodation in Hangar’s artist residency.
From now until October 10, 2021 at 11:59 pm, the call for applications is open. Any artist, of any nationality, can apply for the short-stay residencies in its two modalities to choose: studio + residence (accommodation) or only studio.
Available studios: 6
Duration of the residency: Four 3-month residencies and two 2-month residencies.
Result of selection: mid-November 2021
Studio rental: 130,26 €/month (VAT included)
Studio rental + residence: 635,25 €/month (VAT included)
Deposit: 130 € to be refunded at the end of the stay
General information, terms and conditions
The studio
Dimensions: 30 sqm. 30 sqm spaces are individual and 60 sqm spaces are shared by 2 artists.
Facilities: work table, electrical outlet, water basin, internet connection (wi-fi), communal kitchen, showers and heating.
The artists’ residence
The Hangar artists’ residence is located at the entrance of the factory site where the center is located. The house has a first floor and a second floor (80.99 sqm) and a ground floor (62.59 sqm). Each floor has two double bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen. It also has access to a garden.
Artists-in-residence have a room for individual use, and a kitchen-dining room and bathroom shared with another artist.
Calendar and duration
There are 6 places available for residences on the following dates:
– January 1 to March 31 (1 vacancy).
– April 1 to June 30 (1 vacancy)
– from January 1 to February 28 (2 vacancies)
– from March 1 to April 30 (2 vacancies)
Resources offered
Hangar offers the following resources to those selected through this call:
1. Housing (optional).
2. Work space.
3. Use of the following services free of charge: digital image lab and video self-editing, Hangar spaces (Plato and Sala Polivalente) and audiovisual material rental.
4. Accompaniment during the development of the project:
– Free advice on issues related to artistic production (advice on production planning, preparation and management of budgets, etc.).
– Free consultancy once a week in the framework of Open Thursdays from Hangar’s laboratories and resident collectives.
5. Free access to workshops and activities that take place in Hangar.
6. Dissemination of the project on the web and organization of a public presentation within the framework of Paratext.
Attention:
Travel and accommodation expenses in Barcelona will be paid by the artist-in-residence.
The residency does not include any medical insurance. For international residents, it is advisable for each person to arrange health insurance in their country of origin valid for the period of their residency at Hangar.
Application Process
The application should be sent in pdf format to sergi(at)hangar.org with the subject ” Call for short stay residency Hangar 2022″.
The document must contain:
– Personal data (Full name, date and place of birth, ID or passport number, e-mail contact, telephone contact).
– Artist statement: It is not a biography but a brief discourse on the artistic identity of the work, what characterizes it, its subject matter, theory and formalization (2500 characters maximum, spaces included).
– Curriculum Vitae (2500 characters maximum, spaces included).
– Graphic dossier of the last works (up to a maximum of 5 works; technical data sheets, images, texts and corresponding links).
– Personal web URL.
– Modality chosen: studio + residency (accommodation) or only studio.
– Two options of dates for the residency according to the above-mentioned calendar, as well as flexibility.
IMPORTANT: Applications that do not include the required information and/or exceed the extension limits will not be accepted.
Selection Process
The selection will be made by the Hangar Program Committee.
Basic evaluation criteria
– The presentation of all documents and materials requested by the call, in the requested format and with the recommended length.
– The adequacy of the personal material presented to the specific conditions of the call.
– The clarity of the information presented in written and visual material.
– The quality of the overall project.
– The professional attitude of the applicant, both in the description and in the defense of the project.
– The Program Committee will show special sensitivity to aspects of inclusiveness in its selection.
Formalization of the residency (for artists from other countries)
Selected artists must pay a deposit of 10% of the total cost of the residency within 15 working days of the notification of the result. Failure to make this payment within the established deadlines will result in the cancellation of the residency.
Please note: once the residency has been formalized, dates cannot be changed.
