Summer Sessions 2020 open call

Open call for the participation of a Spanish artist in the Summer Sessions 2020 program.

Summer Sessions are short term international art and technology residencies for emerging artists and designers. A network of cultural organizations from around the world sponsors and hosts the residencies.

This year, Hangar will sponsor an artist from Spain to participate in this program and to carry out a two-month residency at V2_Lab (Rotterdam).

Objective of this call and their beneficiaries

The aim of this call is to select an artist from Spain to participate in the Summer Sessions Programme. This call is aimed at artists and designers who work with art and technology under 35 years of age and/or have graduated in the last five years and are resident in Spain.

Residency period

Each residence of the Summer Sessions has an approximate duration of eight weeks and takes place between June and September. During this period the artist will develop a project from the concept to the presentable work, ready to be shown. The dates of the residency will be confirmed with the receiving institution.

Benefits and funding of the grant

– Living expenses: € 1500 (750 €/month)
– Fees: € 500
– Production costs: € 750
– Flight costs: € 200
– Accommodation: € 800

*The residence does not include medical insurance. It is mandatory for the artists to personally take out a medical insurance valid during the residency period.

Application

– Applications should be submitted through the Summer Sessions online platform: https://www.summersessions.net/apply
– The candidates must create a two-minute video explaining their project and how they will do it during the Summer Sessions. There are no restrictions on the topic or theme. Please note that any additional material, written or otherwise, may be submitted, although selections will be made based on the videos only. Videos may be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.
– Each artist can apply with only one project.

Commitments of the selected project

The selected artists will commit to:

– Participate during their residency in communication activities.
– To provide a final report of the project to the centres and an evaluation of the residency during the two months following its completion.
– To make a presentation of the results of the residency at the end of it in Hangar (Barcelona), within the framework of the Paratext.

The deadline for receipt of applications is May 1st, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CEST.
