The specific interventions (in specific places and moments) that shape the practice of Eulalia Garcia Valls seek to tighten the relationship between the context where they are located and the behavior we adopt within it. They work as an addition or extension (add-on) to a concrete daily experience that wants to alter, question, move. They are hardly perceptible transformations that provoke a state of rethinking, negotiation and discomfort among the elements involved in the environment where they are posed.

She focuses her interest on understanding and responding to certain intrinsic structures of the art system. For this reason he works directly on the context, the space where we live, its elements and its skin, understanding that acting on the space and the structures that form it allows us to alter (or affect) the behavior we have within it, and therefore, to question it. To articulate this gesture, the tools she uses are tension, provocation, perplexity, strangeness and contradiction. She works from the existing, with immersive proposals, specific in relation to temporality and the place where she carries out each project.

Eulalia Garcia Valls graduated in Arts and Design from the Massana School (Barcelona) and is currently a resident at the center for research and artistic production in Hangar (Barcelona, from 2019 to 2021). She has recently been selected to be part of the BIAM 2020 (Bienal de Arte Ciudad de Amposta), is a finalist for the Miquel Casablancas 2020 Award (in the project category) and has obtained one of the grants for research and innovation in the fields of visual arts from the OSIC, also this year. In 2019, she won the prize in the category of creation of the Sala d’Art Jove, with the project “Instalar un falso techo”.

Previously she has been a resident at De Ateliers (Amsterdam, from 2017 to 2019), at Fabra i Coats (Barcelona, from 2015 to 2016) and at Estruch (Sabadell, in 2014, with the Placa Turca collective). The last exhibitions where she has participated are “TRAFIC” (Barcelona), “speak, memory” (W139, Amsterdam), “Rooms of Now # 2” (Middelburg, Vleeshal), “Once a Closely Guarded Secret” (De Ateliers, Amsterdam ), and “Pas 4: Col·lapse. Instal·lar un fals sostre” (Sala d’Art Jove, Barcelona). Other previous exhibitions have been “Aperture 01: The ass between two chairs” (Galería Àngels Barcelona, Barcelona), “Adiós al rombo” (Casa Encendida, Madrid), “En procés” (Fabra i Coats – Fábrica de creación, Barcelona) , “Transportes Placa Turca” (Festo, Torelló), “Sis artistes es tanquen al Centre Cívic Sant Andreu” (CC Sant Andreu, Barcelona), “Matters in the Dark” (TENT, Rotterdam), among others.
