SCULPTURE ON THE HORIZON: IDEOLOGICAL SKYLINES OF BARCELONA

DEBATE between
Gloria Moure, Núria Benach and Matteo Guidi

In 2014, Mayor Trias asked the artist Jaume Plensa to imagine an iconic piece for the city’s seaside. The proposal for a sculptural intervention opens up the debate on historical and contemporary ways of exposing the dynamics of the art market, politics, historical narrative, and public space that influence how value is constructed.
Debate with Gloria Moure, art historian and exhibition curator, and Núria Benach, geographer and professor at the University of Barcelona. Moderated by Matteo Guidi, artist, anthropologist and Sociology Professor at the University of ISIA Urbino (Italy).
Gloria Moure is an art historian and exhibition curator. During the 1990s she was director of the Fundació Espai Poblenou and, from 2002 to 2008, she was a member of the Evaluation Committee for urban planning projects in the Barcelona City Council.
Núria Benach is a professor of Geography at the University of Barcelona. Her interests include the transformation of Barcelona for the Olympic Games and the banalization of meaning that results from an economic promotion of tourism.
Matteo Guidi is an artist, anthropologist and Sociology Professor at the University of ISIA Urbino (Italy). He is currently working with Giuliana Racco on the project The Artist and the Stone, which proposes a political reflection on the installation of a stone from Palestine in public space in Barcelona.
