Noela Covelo Velasco is an artist based in Barcelona. She holds a Master’s degree in Sound Art (2020–2022) and a Bachelor’s degree in Design, specializing in Fashion (2012–2016). Her vocal training began at the age of 13. Noela works with the voice as a material medium across sound, performance, installation, and collective research practices. Her explorations involve song-making, choral atonality, and the alteration of spatial perception through sonic experimentation. She is a member of Foc space and co-founder of c h o r o, a space for pedagogical experimentation based at Foc.
Noela Covelo Velasco works with collective voice as a place for political imagination. She uses voice in the state of not-yet language. In this way, she approaches cultural recognition through the unfamiliar, giving form to internal and expanded voices. In recent research, she has been sliding through different ways of standing and vocalizing, considering various stages of intimacy — for example; singing softly into one’s ear, then assuming the direction of a choir and then performing in front of it, all together in the same space.
