Office of transparency and good governance
Hangar is a project with a singular legal and institutional body. The center was a project promoted by an association of visual artists at the end of the 1990s; at the legal level, it was constituted as a private foundation with a Board of Trustees made up mainly of artists, but its objectives, its contextual task and its mode of financing are closer to those of a public institution. It could be said that Hangar is an “unidentified institutional object” or a “non-binary” institutional structure. At the beginning of 2023, after 25 years in operation, it becomes clear that the statutes need to be updated to reflect this uniqueness and also to link the governance of the center with its social base. With this objective in mind, an Office of Transparency and Good Governance was created, formed by Sergi Aguilar, Tere Badia, Efraín Foglia, Montserrat Moliner, Joan Morey, Clàudia Pagès, Joan Vilapuig (representing PAAC, Plataforma Assambleària de Artistas de Cataluña); Hiuwai Chu (representing the Hangar Board of Trustees), Anna Manubens (Hangar Director) and Esther Doblas (Office Coordinator and member of the Hangar team). It is expected that at the end of its first year of operation, the Office will propose an updated and consensual version of Hangar’s statutes.
