Paratext #77 with Victor Ruiz Colomer, Noémi Büchi and Laura Paloma

This name, Paratext, hides a monthly program of performances by artists in residence at Hangar as well as artists on exchange grants. They present, in different formats, specific projects or parts of their work. The sessions are always open to the public with the purpose of enabling interaction with the artists themselves.

The next Paratext session will take place on Wednesday, July 24th, at 8 p.m. in Hangar’s Sala Ricson.

Projects will be presented by:

Victor Ruiz Colomer (Production Grant 2023)
In recent years, Ruiz Colomer’s work has been preoccupied with spatial making, proposing systems and structures that experiment with their perceptual relations. In doing so, the transformation of materiality in the circulation of value, the invention of study, notative and scripting forms within pedagogical and self-organised dynamics, and the leaks of social reorganisation through energy consumption become recurrent aspects of his practice.

For this presentation, the structural or systemic approach is articulated from an interest in the genealogy of spaces where knowledge is produced and legitimated in the west. From glasshouses as places of decontextualization and conservation, to shopping malls as triggers of desire, as well as world expositions acting as hinges across these environments, interview introduces forms of plastic opacity where the distribution and consumption of knowledge could drift.

Noémi Büchi (Prohelvetia Art and Technology Residency)
Noémi Büchi is a Swiss/French composer and sound artist who creates electronic symphonic maximalism. Her music is defined by a delicate synthesis of textural rhythms and electroacoustic-orchestral abstraction.

She explores the potential of cross-genre musical structures, contrasting rhythmic physicality with disruption and playfully emphasizing irregularities, creating an expansive listening experience marked by detail and elevation.

She holds a Master’s degree in electroacoustic composition and a Bachelor’s degree in musicology and German literature/linguistics. Her musical work spans electroacoustic composition, live performances, audiovisual shows, music for film, music for contemporary dance, music for installations, music for theater, and ensemble and orchestral works.

Laura Paloma (Prohelvetia Art and Technology Residency)
Laura Paloma is an artist and writer based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. She writes multilingual short stories about love, loss, and the livestream. Her practice questions the relationship between image, object, text, language, and play online. She is interested in the détournement and misuse of corporate social media platforms, as well as the negotiations that take place between the user and the platform. She works with DIY, lo-fi, and self-publishing techniques, as well as with found or recycled physical and digital materials. Her projects address ideas of authorship, materiality, and performativity of digital and networked images and texts.

* Just before Paratext, at 7 pm, Sala Ricson will also host the public talk How do you do?, as part of the second edition of the Hangar Visitors Program, with the participation of Laila Hida from LE 18 in Marrakesh; Fatima Bintou Rassoul Sy from Raw Material in Dakar, and Devrim Bayar from KANAL-Centre Pompidou in Brussels, moderated by Anna Manubens, director of Hangar, and Veronica Valentini, responsible for research networks and international residencies at the center.

Free entrance.
