Mathilde Vignaud. Bordeaux, 1997
Mathilde Vignaud graduated in illustration from the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (Strasbourg School of Decorative Arts), where she developed a passion for printing, particularly through screen printing and metal engraving.
Through these mediums, as well as storytelling and comics, Mathilde creates a universe that is close to our reality, but where absurdity has taken over. The grotesque, the immoral, sometimes violence, and strange characters intersect and collide, forming an enigmatic and psychedelic world.
Arising from her practice of self-publishing and printing, Mathilde Vignaud is also interested in the current challenges of these practices and questions the social and political role of printing and bookmaking. This was notably explored in her graduation thesis on graphzines.
Since 2024, Mathilde has co-founded, with Colombian artist Desperfecto, the publishing house SLURP, which aspires to be a collective and borderless space for graphic experimentation, culminating in the printed object.
