Mourae (Lois Búa) is an artist, sound designer, and producer. They graduated in Fine Arts in Pontevedra from the University of Vigo and completed a master’s degree in Sound Art at the University of Barcelona.
Their practice is situated between the ruins of a lingering past and the sprouts of a future that struggles to emerge. Mourae, the name under which their work is presented, is a sound and performative project rooted in the worlds of DJing, drag, and performance art. Their works explore the construction and representation of subjectivities through contemporary cultural production, with a particular focus on Galician oral tradition and mythology. They also revisit issues such as rural abandonment, tourism-driven transformation, and gender roles, approaching them from a situated perspective shaped by their experience as a queer and rural person. These ideas take shape through sound pieces and performances that weave together fiction, orality, and sound. Voice—at the core of their work—is modified and layered to create textures that bridge the mechanical and the supernatural, generating realities that invite new ways of perceiving.
Through these assemblages, they aim to question and highlight the contingency of the world we inhabit, fostering political imagination and the lost hope within the context of Capitalist Realism. They also seek to expand Galician oral tradition beyond mere preservation—creatively contaminating and extending it to forge an art that uses the Galician language as a tool of resistance against the marginalization that has led it to its current endangered state.
Currently, they are developing the soundtrack for Baunsbak, the new choreographic piece by Elvi Balboa, with whom they previously collaborated on ANÖA. They also work as a sound designer for Bartlebooth’s podcast Nuevas Coordenadas for the Arquia Foundation. In 2025, they released their first EP, MOURAE, under the Neurodungeon label, with a pre-release at La Casa Encendida (Madrid).
Through their performances—as a host or DJ—they have performed at Las Galerías Municipales de Porto, Santa Mònica (Barcelona), Normal (A Coruña), and CGAC (Santiago de Compostela).
