Violeta Mayoral is an artist based in Barcelona. Her practice addresses different languages and media, from the visual to the performative, and is informed by questions that are related to the semiotic condition of experience. She uses the encounter and listening as a methodology and her research tries to understand the regimes of sense from the paradigm of vision and acoustic experience addressing phenomena such as orientation, inference, experience, contingency or intuition.
She studied Communication at the University of Barcelona with a mention in Semiotics by the UNAM (DF, Mexico) thanks to the Iberoamerican scholarship of Banco Santander. She has exhibited her work at the Joan Miró Foundation, the Reina Sofía Museum, the Sala de Arte Joven in Madrid, the Art Nou Bcn festival, the etHall gallery in Barcelona and the contemporary art fairs SWAB and Arte Santander. She has also published in platforms such as Lateral Addittion (Philadelphia), Atmos (Montevideo) and A*DESK (Barcelona) among others. She has taught at La Casa Encendida (Madrid) and in the En Residència program (Barcelona). At present her work is represented by etHall gallery in Barcelona.
