Open call: Artistic Residency in Dakar

Promoted by Hangar, RAW Material Company and CCCB, supported by Institut Ramon Llull.

Aim of the Call for Applications
As part of the cross-residency between Barcelona and Dakar, Hangar, Raw Material, CCCB, and Institut Ramon Llull collaborate to launch a call for one spot in a program of research residencies aimed at facilitating and supporting exchanges and dialogues of proximity between the two geographies.

The aim of this call is to support an artist based in Catalonia for whom being in Senegal is crucial to advancing a creative process and/or research. All disciplines are welcome, from visual arts and architecture to research projects. The residency will take place from Monday, March 3rd to Sunday, March 30th, 2025, in Dakar. The call is promoted by Hangar and RAW Material Company, who will provide accompaniment for the artist while in Senegal, and receives support from Institut Ramon Llull.

The Catalan artist residency will take place in March 2025 in Dakar.

The residency in Barcelona will take place from September 2nd to September 28th, 2024, with Dakar-based architects Nzinga Mboup and Carole Diop. The artists will be staying at Hangar and accompanied by both Hangar and CCCB during a visit that will also include, among other activities, their participation in a public program aimed at opening up conversations on cities and contemporary challenges. Nzinga Mboup will participate as a panelist in a public event on Global South Metropolises to be held at the CCCB on September 5th. Carole Diop will participate as a panelist in an international seminar on Cities & Sea, which will also be held at the CCCB on September 10th.

About the Organizations
Hangar is a center dedicated to maintaining (that is, generating, updating, revising, and sustaining) the conditions necessary to facilitate artistic production and research. This includes practices and forms of critical speculation capable of responding to contemporary debates and urgencies. Hangar views art as a knowledge-producing practice and defends artistic research as a distinct research modality with its own methods of discovery and knowledge production. Hangar’s mission is to support creators throughout all phases of artistic research and production processes by offering a range of services and tools. Some are managed directly by Hangar, while others are managed by its resident collectives. These resources aim to facilitate artists’ access to necessary conceptual, contextual, semiotic, material, and technical resources, providing a context for experimentation and free exchange of knowledge.

RAW Material Company is a center dedicated to art, knowledge, and society. It engages in curatorial practice, artistic education, residencies, knowledge production, and archiving of theory and criticism in art. RAW Material Company aims to promote appreciation and advancement of artistic and intellectual creativity in Africa.
