PRACTICABLE 10_Manglar

Smell, tangle, mud, crossroads. The mangrove (manglar) is the transition zone between marine and terrestrial biomes, it is the reciprocal visit between the forms and sensitivities of water and land. It fills and empties every day, pneuma of the tides (lunar chronotopy), balance. Sea animals come daily to copulate, to lay their eggs, to take care of their offspring, to inhabit its warmth and libidinal force.

As part of the Practicable Research Action, and within the framework of the Barcelona Crea research and experimentation grant, Hangar welcomes to the Wetlab the Manglar collective, made up of Tatiana Afanador López, Magdalena Hart, Lara Campos, Rafael Frazão, Ce Quimera, txe roimeser and Tau Luna Acosta. Based on the experimentation of different forms of coexistence between species, Manglar proposes a cycle of discharge in the libidinal tide of the collective with the intention of creating a space of exchange of practices around the situated sciences, that is to say, practices of recognition and enchantment with the worlds that include the bodies of the scientists in the experiences, that welcome the intentions more than human in the experiments and that test with the umbilical relationship between fiction and science.

The Manglar Residency, which takes place throughout November, begins with a phase of radical contamination, mixing of organisms, plants and dirt, and ends with a phase of decontamination, separation and cleaning of the space. It is structured as a cycle of ebb and flow. Within this process, it encourages experimentation with unique methodologies ranging from pause and rest to cultures (bacteria, fungi, plants and symbiotic situations), multi-species oracles, a therolinguistic scientific committee, the metamorphosis of matter or the creation of a decontamination and/or sterilisation consortium. This ecology of practices, based on play, pleasure and rehearsal, seeks to generate interspecies intimacies and to disturb the statutes of scientific doing, to be opened and shared with the public in the last part of the process.

Manglar is inhabited by a group of seven people who propose experimental encounters around the concept of situated sciences. Situated sciences as practices of recognition and enchantment with the worlds, which assume and deepen the de-universalisation of the scientific gesture. The collective’s practices include different cultures and situations of contagion, multi-species oracles, the construction of tools and utensils, the activation of the committee of therolinguistic sciences, and others.
