Cute Without the E. Reading Session

“From deep inside me they bring out monstrous objects: watches, dolls, lots of teeth and combs, eggs, eggs, blue, white and pink.”
Marosa di Giorgio
As part of the Fictions of Dis-order programme, a reading session will be held on Thursday 18 June by Cute Without the E.
Fantasy is an exercise in speculation closely linked to the world of childhood. Based on a selection of theoretical and poetic texts by Marosa di Giorgio, Kathryn Bond Stockton, Sianne Ngai, Belleza y Felicidad, José Esteban Muñoz, Saidiya Hartman, Tavia Nyong’o or Fred Moten, among others, we will read Fantastic Imagination as a queer desire to resist the normative calendar, to extend the childish and its forms beyond its time of validity. It is the way to inhabit the world when it cannot yet be understood, to intensify it and make it bigger by means of proliferating folds, metaphors, fecundity and queer reproduction. But childhood is not the same as innocence and the surfaces cute of these fantasies for survival are full of violence.
