Color mi amor ›› Wild solarisation in 16mm

As part of the SPECTRAL activities dedicated to Expanded Cinematic Arts, the Crater-Lab residency project presents Color mi amor ›› Wild solarisation in 16mm; a workshop led by French filmmaker Gaëlle Rouard, one of the most important figures at the beginning of the international movement of independent laboratories and founder of the Metamkine laboratory in Grenoble (FR) in the 1990s.

Over the course of two afternoons and a full day, the creative possibilities of one of the most mysterious, complex and fascinating processes in existence will be explored: solarisation. The aim is to extend the creative possibilities of the developing and copying process to explore the infinite layers, textures, volumes and depths that the emulsion offers when treated in the most expansive way possible. Through contact copying and the various exposures available during the development process, we will create images that open up across the entire visible spectrum. Copying will be carried out using the flat printing technique. Through various tests, series of loops will be created in an attempt to deepen one of the most difficult techniques to master. The results in the form of loops will then be taken to different projectors, which will be treated as an instrument to rethink projection in a performative way.
