Communication and professionalisation tools for artists 2024

PAAC presents in Hangar the workshop Communication and professionalisation tools for artists 2024, given by Joan Morey.

As artists begin their professional careers, they realise that in addition to knowledge of the creative process, they need tools and resources for cataloguing, communicating and promoting their work. These subjects are generally not taught in traditional artistic training spaces.

The artist’s work, before and after it is exhibited or communicated to the public, goes through several phases: formalisation, cataloguing, promotion, commercialisation, preservation, etcetera. For this reason, it is necessary to understand, in a broad sense, the responsibilities of creators, the infrastructures and missions of exhibition spaces, or the specificities of calls for projects, prizes and grants or residencies for artists. Knowing how to operate in each of these situations facilitates the professionalisation of the artistic field.

During these sessions, examples will be presented, cases will be analysed and practical exercises will be proposed to develop or update personal resources and skills. The aim is to create a professional artistic profile and thus achieve logical goals as a professional artist according to each person’s career path.

Methodological support will be offered in:

—Participation in artistic performance contexts.
—The organisation of the work (ordering and cataloguing artistic production).
—The construction of the professional trajectory (statement, biographical profile or resume and the visual or audiovisual dossier).
—The presentation of works or projects to calls for prizes, grants and artistic residencies.
—Good professional practices in Art.
