Production and Exhibition Grants by Institut Ramon Llull, NewArtFoundation and Hangar
Institut Ramon Llull, NewArtFoundation and Hangar, Centre for Production and Research of Visual Arts in Barcelona open a call for proposals to award three grants for the production of artistic pieces in the field of the confluence between art and technology. These pieces will be presented in an exhibition at Arts Santa Monica, within the official program of the 2020 Ars Electronica Festival, which is held in a distributed mode, with Barcelona as one of its locations, due to the crisis of the COVID- 19.
This call will award a total of three grants, divided into two modalities:
- Modality 1: 2 grants, financed by the Institut Ramon Llull, with a production endowment of €5,000 and a fee of €1,000 each. The pieces produced in this way will be deposited in NewArtFoundation, keeping the artist the property. NewArtFoundation and the BEEP Collection will guarantee with their infrastructure the storage, conservation and diffusion of the work.
- Modality 2: 1 grant, financed by the BEEP Collection, with an endowment of €8,000 for production and €1,000 for fees. The piece produced under this modality will be incorporated into the BEEP Collection.
Grant recipients and project requirements
Artists, researchers and developers, whether Catalan or resident in Catalonia, of any age and nationality, are eligible for these grants.
The projects presented must privilege work with open source technologies and under free licenses.
Duration
The production process financed by these grants begins on 17 July 2020, the day on which the result of the call will be communicated, and must be completed before 9 September 2020, the opening day of the 2020 Ars Electronica Festival.
Conditions
a. The application should be submitted by email to marzia[at]hangar.org.
b. The application must specify the grant modality the project is being submitted to.
c. Each person may submit only one project to each of the two modalities.
d. The development of the projects will have the means, advice and working space of Hangar’s Interaction Laboratory.
e. The Institut Ramon Llull, NewArtFoundation and Hangar offer the beneficiaries:
Modality 1 (2 grants)
– Fees: €1,000 gross.
– A production bag of up to €5,000 gross.
– Workspace in the Hangar Interaction Lab.
– Technical support for the development and production of the project by Hangar.
Modality 2 (1 grant)
– Fees: €1,000 gross.
– A production bag of up to €8,000 gross.
– Workspace in the Hangar Interaction Lab.
– Technical support for the development and production of the project by Hangar.
* IMPORTANT: these grants do not offer accommodation or a mobility grant. The projects selected in Modality 1 and Modality 2 will be presented to an exhibition at Arts Santa Monica, within the official program of the 2020 Ars Electronica Festival, from September 9 to 13, 2020.
Commitments of the selected artists
a. Make a presentation of the project in Hangar within the framework of Paratext.
b. Deliver a final report of the project and an assessment of the grant during the two months following its completion.
c. Include the logo of the Institut Ramon Llull, NewArtFoundation and Hangar in all public communication of the project.
d. The project selected in Modality 2 will also include the logo of the BEEP Collection.
e. Participate in the promotion of Hangar’s Open Thursdays, a space for sharing artistic research processes and knowledge transfer.
Application process
The application will be made by submitting a pdf-file, with the required fields below. The application must be sent by e-mail to Pense, pense[at]hangar.org, and will have a single pdf document attached, including the fields listed below. The reception of proposals is opened to the publication of this call, and will close on 12 July 2020 at 23:59 (UTC + 1h). The e-mail must have this subject:”Beques de producció i exhibició Institut Ramon Llull, NewArtFoundacion i Hangar”. Applications can be submitted in Catalan, Spanish and English.

Selection Committee
The selection committee will consist of:
Eva Soria and Maria Lladó (Institut Ramon Llull), Marisol López (Digital Area lCEC), Marie-France Veyrat, Andreu Rodríguez Valveny and Vicente Matallana (NewArtFoundation), Pau Alsina and Irma Vilà (UOC, ISEA Barcelona), Roberta Bosco (curator and critic), a member of Hangar’s Programme Commission and Lluís Nacenta (Hangar). The committee may include a representative of the exhibition space where the work will be shown.
