Oriol Vilapuig

Oriol Vilapuig (Sabadell, 1964), studied at the School of Art and Design EINA in Barcelona (1982-1985) and graduated in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts San Jorge of the University of Barcelona (1985-1990). He teaches drawing and coordinates the Art workshops at the Illa de Sabadell school, where he also promotes and participates in a workshop on Art in childhood and adolescence. He is a professor in the BAU Fine Arts degree.

The artistic work of Oriol Vilapuig adopts the form of essay as a procedure and methodology. Essay as a form of study and open inquiry, a drift always in progress that overflows any imaginary, and essay also as a way of defining or questioning the limits of our experience. This experience is made visible, largely thanks to tradition, understood as that which precedes us. Hence the constant use in his works of the quotation and appropriation of other authors that also appear in the form of writing.

His work is inscribed in the will to create imaginary around reiterated themes of our collective memory such as desire, loss, eroticism, the body, fear, language and time.

This repeated use and work with images is conditioned by a kind of poiesis, that is, a trigger that produces meaning and invites us to consider both the position of the artist and the positions of those who approach them.
