Peppe Cerillo. Naples, 1973

Peppe Cerillo, artist and designer, with a ceramic industry background. He started in Perugia as a satirical cartoonist under the guidance of Sergio Angese and Jacopo Fo, authors of the magazines “Il Male” “Cuore” and “Linus”. In 1999 he held a degree in Fine Arts from the ISIA Faenza. He worked five years as industrial designer with Diva Design Studio (Faenza) making wall and floor ceramic decorations. He won a ceramic tiles design contest in Bari (1998) and had a mention at the Kutani International Decorative Ceramic Competition in Hishikawa (Japan 1997). In 2003 he came back to Napoli and started his activity as set designer, making more than 30 cinema and theatre works, collaborating amongs other with Abel Ferrara, Susanne Bier, Studio Azzurro, Silvano Agosti. In the same period he started to research about cardboard furniture and pop-up books, creating the Napoli Pop-Up picture book series. He made exhibitions in various galleries and events around Italy and Europe (Napoli, Bologna, Milano, Perugia, Faenza, Berlin, Bruxelles, Antwerp, Locarno, Lugano) He is art teacher for the “Maestri di Strada” association, working in problem areas against early school leaving. His work is totally eclectic and multi-faceted, even if you can always find his satirical streak and his passion for complicated decorations in everything he does.
