Jan Mech‘s artistic work has two roots: contemporary theatre and performance from one hand, and contemporary electronic music from the other. Mech studied theatre, film and media studies (Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität, Frankfurt), and he started mixing this disciplines with sound experimentation during a stage in DasArts (Amsterdam). From this moment, the centre of his work is the creation and performing of sound pieces, developing an approach to performance that links the sound with the physical presence of the performer in space.
He has been a resident artist of many institutions, and he has also taken part in many solo and collective exhibitions: “Kylwyren” (Hungarian Cultural Center, Berlin, 2010), “H-Box Project – Midway” (Yokohama Tiennial and Tate Modern, London, 2008 and Centre Pompidou, París and MUSAC, Leon, 2007), “Episode” (Franklin Art Works, Minneapolis, 2008), among others.
Appart from his own artwork, from 2007, he collaborates regularly with the artist Dora Garcia as a performer. Their last work together is “Die Klau Mich Show” for Documenta(13), Kassel.
