“Reoccurring topics in my work are: communication, power structures and personal development. We are all so alike, and yet so different. In the meeting with the other through self-reflection, development can take place.
This process of change and development of the individual endlessly fascinates me. With the focus on the intrinsic thoughts and feelings of the inner world, which one can’t always see from the outside.
I see the human as a work in progress and believe that the individual is a processor of life. I think that people have the ability to reflect on things. And because of this are capable to continuously learn. By doing so we can re/create and re/positioning oneself.”
Kim Engelen has lived, studied and worked in 5 countries. She lives now in Berlin, Germany. Engelen graduated in 1999 for her Bachelor of Fine Arts in the Netherlands. In 2010, Engelen studied for a Master of Fine Arts in San Francisco, USA. And in 2013, she graduated as a Master of Fine Arts in Critical and Pedagogical Studies in Malmö, Sweden.
