Paratext Encura 2.1 Chemtrails
Paratext featuring Encura#2.1: Chemtrails
What are chemtrails?
Were Araucanians a telepathic society?
Is Walt Disney cryogenically waiting for the scientific breakthroughs needed to cure lung cancer?
At the next Paratext that will happen on December 14, Manuela Pedrón Nicolau and Jaime González Cela will present Chemtrails. The curatorial project they have developed in the framework of the Encura 2016-17 residence. A project that investigates the narrative potential of contemporary art, especially in relation to popular culture. The curators have worked with Hangar’s resident artists Paco Chanivet, Alejandra Avilés, Eliana Beltrán and Rafael Perez Evans, on the basis of concepts of legend and conspiracy theory and reflection on their forms of creation and diffusion. A project, in which its different proposals generate a multiform anthology of stories. Next Wednesday all the mysteries that envelop this narrative experiment will be unveiled in an intervention conference that will cover some principles of contemporary mythology, guerrilla communication and its possibilities in contemporary artistic practice.
Manuela Pedrón Nicolau (Granada, 1988) and Jaime González Cela (Madrid, 1984) work as collective is focused on the research about mediation processes within the curatorial practice and the ability of contemporary art to create narratives in order to explore political and social contexts. As curatorial team, Manuela and Jaime have curated Art fiction at CaixaForum Barcelona, the winning project in the call for young curators Comisart (2013), and C.I.T.I (Technically Unpredictable Investigation Centre) a programme of an exhibition, activities and actions developed at Sala de Arte Joven in Madrid (2015). Manuela Pedrón Nicolau and Jaime González Cela have been residents at the Spanish Academy in Rome in 2015/16.
